Charged with the responsibility of Teacher Training and Development across Primary and Secondary School Education levels. We oversee both face-to-face and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) aspects of teacher education.
Directorate of Teacher Education and Development (DTED) is one of the departments in the Ministry of Education headquarters, charged with the responsibility of Teacher Training and Development in the country across the Primary and Secondary School Education levels. Its main thrust is to oversee both the face to face as well as the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) aspects of teacher education.
In undertaking this, DTED works very closely with public and private Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) as well as Teacher Training Institutes (TTIs) in Malawi.
To have a comprehensive and effective teacher education, development and management system that is relevant and responsive to the needs of the nation.
To educate and continually develop professionalism of teachers so that they are able to effectively and efficiently deliver quality and relevant education at both primary and secondary school level.
To coordinate pre-service and in-service training of teachers at both primary and secondary level.
Lecturers and Student teachers in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) and Teacher Training Institutes, including all Development Partners (DPs) and Civil Society Leaders and Organisations that have both an interest and a stake in Teacher Education and Development. We also work with all the 6 Education Divisions, 34 Education Districts and Primary Education Zones (PEAs) in the country.
