Minister of Education, Science and Technology Honourable Bright Msaka, SC, has expressed commitment to strengthening Malawi’s cooperation with Egypt in higher education, vocational training and teacher development.

Msaka made the commitment on Wednesday in Lilongwe when Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Rasha Hamdy paid him a courtesy visit , during which the two discussed areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing cooperation in the education sector.

The ambassador said the cooperation between the two countries would create opportunities for Malawian students to easily access scholarships .

She said they also wanted to share their expertise in vocational education and training, particularly in industrialisation, industrial technologies and artificial intelligence citing that Egypt has made significant progress in vocational education through the establishment of specialised training institutions and programmes that equip learners with practical skills required in modern industries.

She also presented the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, an online digital library that provides thousands of academic references and learning resources in Arabic, English and French a platform that enables students, researchers and institutions to access educational materials while also offering training on research skills, referencing and effective use of digital resources .

Hamdy said she wanted Malawi to benefit from the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and that arrangements would be made for experts from the platform to engage Malawian education officials on how institutions can access and utilise the service.

Deputy Director of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education Caroline Chimphinga Mwale said the partnership would contribute to Malawi’s human capital development through scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students, teacher training and capacity-building opportunities.

She added that Malawi would also benefit from Egypt’s experience in vocational education as the country continues to promote technical skills development and entrepreneurship in higher education institutions.
