Folley urges Malawi Adventist University Graduates to transform communities
Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology Francis Folley MP has challenged graduates of Malawi Adventist University to use their knowledge, skills and professional expertise to transform communities and contribute to Malawi’s social and economic development.
Folley made the call during the university’s 16th Graduation Ceremony held at its Lakeview Campus under the theme, “Transforming Communities through Service and Leadership.”
He said graduation is not the end of learning but the beginning of a new chapter in which graduates are expected to apply their knowledge, demonstrate professional competence and make meaningful contributions to society.
Folley said the graduation theme challenge the graduands to reflect on the kind of professionals and citizens they aspired to become, emphasising that education should go beyond acquiring academic qualifications to developing values and attitudes that promote responsible leadership and service.
He urged graduates in health related fields to serve with compassion, professionalism and respect for human dignity, while those entering the teaching profession should recognise their responsibility in shaping the minds and character of future generations.
Folley further encouraged graduates in other disciplines to use their expertise to identify opportunities, solve problems and contribute to the country’s development, saying Malawi needs knowledgeable, ethical, dependable and innovative professionals.
He commended Malawi Adventist University for complementing Government’s efforts in expanding access to higher education through the training of health personnel, teachers and graduates in business and agriculture.
Malawi Adventist University Vice Chancellor Vernon Kabambe said the institution considers itself a growing university that must embrace inclusivity and integrity.
Therefore Kabambe encouraged graduates to continue upgrading themselves and not consider graduation the end of their learning journey.
He also urged them to use their time wisely, noting that some of the challenges people face today are a result of how they use their time.Kabambe further encouraged graduates to demonstrate the knowledge and values they had acquired at the university wherever they go, saying education should be reflected in their conduct and actions.
